Argentina Govt. Calls Public Sector Wage Talks

Buenos Aires, March 5 (NA) — The national government has called for the reopening of collective bargaining negotiations for public sector employees this Friday, March 6, at 2:00 PM. The meeting will take place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor, located at 25 de Mayo 633 in the capital. The state has invited the discussion to the Civil Servants' Union of the Nation (UPCN), led by Andrés Rodríguez, and the State Workers' Association (ATE), led by Rodolfo Aguiar, the two unions that represent the majority of public sector personnel. The call for negotiations comes after a recess that the Ministry of Labor decreed in December 2025, when the unions' demands were far from the state's offers as the employer. ATE is demanding a salary adjustment of around 45% to 'recover what was lost during the management of Javier Milei,' as the union stated on its social networks. They also demanded a 'one-time payment of 4,000,000 pesos' to compensate for losses. 'In the last two years, the purchasing power of state workers has been destroyed,' stated Aguiar, head of National ATE, while assuring that 'this government is responsible for having expelled tens of thousands of state workers into poverty.'
